Comment on Tay Cities Deal

04th February 2017 - Commenting on the news that plans for the Tay Cities Deal have been submitted, Jenny Marra MSP said: “It is very good news that Decommissioning for Dundee is a key ask in the City Deal bid. I have campaigned hard for a number of years now to bring Decommissioning to Dundee and for Decom investment to be included in the City Deal bid.

“For too long, Dundee has seen a multi-billion industry sail past it to parts of England, Holland and Norway. We need real drive behind the bid process now to secure the investment and bring the industrial jobs that we so badly need in this City. City Deal money is the biggest public investment opportunity that we will see in a generation.

“At the same time as being ambitious for our city, we should be cautious about making big predictions about job numbers. Job promises for Dundee from the Scottish Government have failed to materialise before. The only proof of success here will be when Decom workers in Dundee open their pay packets. City leaders need to work closely with industry experts to make sure Decom happens.

“I will continue to work hard to ensure that the Council meets its commitments made in this document to secure this investment and jobs for Dundee.”
